Some Sad Facts

The Great Pacific Garbage floating between Hawaii and California in the ocean is estimated to be twice the size of the state of Texas. Can you imagine walking and driving all over the state of Texas through garbage?
Over one million marine animals are killed each year by ingesting or getting entangled in plastics.
By 2050, plastics in the ocean will outweigh fish.
Conservative estimates say that at least 100,000 birds and mammals die from discarded plastic bags each year.
5% of the world’s population (the U.S.) generates about 40% of the world’s waste, which amounts to 4.4 lbs. of trash per person per day.
Only 4% of the world’s children live in the U.S., but Americans buy and throw away 40% of the world’s toys.
1/3 of the waste in a landfill is packaging material; packaging is 65% of household trash.
On average, it costs $30 per ton to recycle trash, $50 to send it to the landfill, and $65 to $75 to incinerate it.
